FEA analysis and development

Problem statement
The load of the components above and the added pressure when using the top control panel.

The material was HIPS, the base was fixed to the bottom face and the applied force of 20 N was added to the top.

The majority of the base stayed blue meaning it can withstand the stress and no folding occurred around the cut-out on the base. However, the top deformed significantly.

To add additional strength to the top surface 1 mm ribs were sketched and extruded downwards 5 mm. With a fillet of 1 mm added to each 90-degree angle in contact with the underside, for further security.

A simple cross this improved the strength as no green or red can be seen in on the right.

Final developed renders

After the model evaluation and improvement were completed, the next stage was to present the model in a realistic manner to help visually convey the functionality and features. Also, the colours, materials and finishes (CMF) have a big impact on the aesthetics of the model, influencing emotions, build quality and brand values.

The well-being alarm clock has ambient RBG lights that defuse through the fins. The RBG allow for a wide range of colours depending on combination of colour produced by the LEDs.

An exploded view was made in Keyshot, using the move feature to open the model up one by one. The image below aids in communication of how each of the parts are connected together and the structuring that makes the product useable.
